Farm Energy Audit Project

Project Objectives

This project is the initial endeavor of the Michigan Ag. Energy Program.

This phase of the project is intended to be limited to dairy production facilities as they are among the highest energy consuming farms in Michigan and numbering about 3000 in the State.

The project will:

   1)  Develop methodology for energy audits that identify major applications on dairy farms where present technology allows for cost effective improvements.

    2)  Develop software that can be used to record energy use on dairy farms, and where energy efficiency improvements can be made.

3)  Develop a training program and train an initial group of farm energy auditors that meets State guidelines for certification.

4)  Conduct a minimum of ten dairy farm audits by September 2007 on selected dairy farms in Michigan.
